2008 Wrap-up

Well, another year is almost done - so I thought what better time to update the blog! Lots of things to go through, so i've tried to keep it as condensed as possible!!

Firstly, just need to mention the party I DJ'd at the other night. The 20th of December saw me DJing at the Russian Bar, Kingsland Road London for "Freitag". The party was really good fun with the place packing out around 130/2am. Me and "The Smirk" aka Rik Vincent from Tweek!! played from 1230 til 2am, with residents James Monday and Dimitry Slyusarenko wrapping up the night. Before us was DJ's Ali Macdonald, Stuart Brazewell and Martin Lange - all of which played excellent sets too. Hopefully we will be back to play again at Freitag, so will get some photo's next time and do a proper review!

So back to the rest of year!

2008 has been more about the DJing and networking rather than producing tunes and releasing material on Kinetic Groove.

One of the big things for me in 2008 was the launch party for my label, which took place in April. Despite some hicups along the way and a fair share of problems leading up to and on the night, the party was a huge success with an excellent turn out of people. The party saw sets from Ben Hoo, as well as our most recent signing Paolo Bernacchia aka "Lord of Crows".

I've also been very lucky to travel out to Germany a number of times this year to DJ at the NFF club in Bremen. Bremen is starting to become some what of a second home for Kinetic Groove and as such saw the label throw it's first party outside of the UK - at the NFF Club, Bremen. What's better is the second Kinetic Groove party will now be taking place on the 7th of Feburary 2009!

I also have to mention quite possibly one of the best parties of 2008, of which I've met some excellent people and lots of great contacts. Rainbow Value was a free daytime party that took place at Brick lanes infamous 93ft East throughout the summer. The party attracted a massive amount of people, as well as some big name DJ's. What's more the party was all for charity, something that i've not seen in London before. Sadly the party is no more, but i'm pleased to say that everyone keeps in touch. Let's hope a similar party comes back next year!

More recently we've finally started getting the ball rolling with the Kinetic Groove website. The label has a fair web presence (myspace, facebook, this blog etc etc) but needs its own identity, instead of using someone else's layout and template. In addition to this the website will be a great way to promote the label's artists by means of podcasts, downloadable mixes, gallerys and so on. The website is still in the very early stages of design, with no launch date planned yet - I do however plan to have the label's first podcast available for download in the first part of 2009.

So that's it really for 2008, but what's going to be happening in 2009 at Kinetic Groove?

*Kinetic Groove returns to Bremen on Feb 7th 2009!
*The first Kinetic Groove Podcast!
*The Launch of the Kinetic Groove website!
*Kinetic Groove's 2nd Birthday - yes 2 years old!!
+ who's know's what else could happen!

A big thank you to everyone who has been a part of Kinetic Groove in 2008, 2009 is going to be an exciting year for the label - so stick around!

Happy New Year!

Freitag Xmas Special - 20/12/08

Hello all and Merry Christmas (Can I say that yet?)

Just to let you know that I'll be DJing in London on the 20th of December for Freitag's Xmas Party @ The Russian Bar. I'll be going B2B with The Smirk aka Rik Vincent from Tweek!, alongside Freitag's residents Dimitry Slyusarenko and James Monday.

Just to give you a bit of background on Freitag, I recently went to James and Dimitrys spin off Party "Ickle Freitag" at Underbelly (underneath Zigfid, Hoxton Square). The party was absolutely packed with party goers, complete with a great atmosphere and music to match. The party was the perfect warm up for a night out at Fabric :-)

Freitag is their Monthly night with the aim of providing quality underground House, Mininmal and Tech House - all from up and coming DJ's. With the superclubs cramming more and more people on their dance floors every week, its comforting to see smaller promoters are not giving up the battle and are continuing to put on nights with lesser known DJ's like myself.

Anyways, if you're in East London and fancy a Xmas shin dig - get yourself down to the Russian Bar on Kingsland Road. From Liverpool Street Station you can get the 149, 67, 242, 243 and get off at Laburnum Street. Alternatively its a 7min walk from Hoxton Square. If you have any other queries about the party, e-mail me - stefan@kineticgroove.com

Hope to see you there!

Weekend done! Bremen Style

Hi everyone. I've recently returned from Bremen Germany, so a good time to let you know how things went down.

Firstly, please excuse me, but I must mention how bad Ryanair is! The flight itself was fine, but the pantomime leading up to it was unbelievable. No check in desks at all, just BA style self service check in - complete with "Fast Bag Drop". Checking myself in was fine, however the Fast bag drop took a rapid (wait for it) 1 hour!!!!! I've flown 5 times this year and even been through the presses favorite Terminal Heathrow Terminal 5, and only had to queue for 15 minutes at most - Shocking! Rant over

The usual schedule took place when arriving in Bremen. I was met by Sven who is one of the promoters and DJ's in Bremen. We caught some food and then headed to the Hotel. Plan was to head to the club for about 1am, so enough time to chill out, watch "die Simpsons", sample the minibar and then get ready.

In my haste to leave the UK, I spent more time sorting my records instead of sorting my clothes. As a result I had a bag full of quite impressively creased garments. In search of an Iron and Ironing board I shortly found myself in reception trying to explain to the night porter that I needed an Iron. After a failed charades show and some really bad diagrams, I returned to my room Ironless and got ready.

I caught a Taxi to the club. The road system in Bremen reminds me of Amsterdam e.g. complete chaos! Trams and Buses rule the roads, while bikes rule the pavement. Luckily the club was only round the corner.

On arriving at the club, I was greeted in the usual way by my good friend and Club Manager Jan - which involves a shot of this stuff called "Friesengeist". I absolutely hate shots, but this stuff I can handle - even if it does blow your socks off. This was closely followed by another flavour of Becks beer i've never tried and will probably never try again. For the next hour or so I had a good chance to catch up with another friend Arno aka MC Motion, and also meet Jan's lovely Girlfriend Kat and of course drink some more Friesengeist.

I played my set from 2 til about 4. Unfortuantely not as many people came to the club compared to my previous visits, but there was still enough people to party until the early hours! After another Friesengeist it was time to head back to the hotel. I decided to walk and actually found my way quite easily, compared to last time I visited Bremen where I found myself walking towards the Becks Brewery (completely the wrong way).

On arriving at the hotel quite drunk and armed with a German Phrasebook on my ipod touch, i had a conversation with the same night porter. I walked away with a clean towel and a bottle of Paulaner Lager, still no Iron though...

Day 2 started very shortly after I arrived back at the hotel. "House Keeping..., oh entschuldigen!". Obviously the Maid's are used to normal people going to sleep at normal hours and not going out at 1am. I managed however to get a few more hours sleep, before ringing Arno. We met up for dinner, both nursing hangovers. As Arno's was far worse than mine, I introduced him to the amazing medicinal properties of an ice cold 0.5L of Sprite - worked a treat.

By the time we had finished dinner, it was time to go back to the hotel and get some more sleep - as I was due to DJ at the after party for Get Neon. Headlining at Get Neon was Moonbootica and Pan-pot, needless to say that the clientelle going to this party were going to be the "after party type". After a good sleep and watching repeats of the CNN news articles from the previous day, I got ready and donned a very creased shirt. Seeing as I had succesfully found my way home from the club the night before, I decided to walk this time. Bremen was alive with lots of people drinking in the streets and getting ready to party, alot of which were heading to the ELZ club where get Neon was being held.

I got to the NFF club for about 130am and picked up where we had left off from the night before. Unfortunately I was then given some bad news. The Polizei had recently been to the club and advised that all clubs in Bremen must stop playing music at 4am at the council's request! What a nightmare. We still played music til 4am on the dot and had a great time in the process. More drink was drunk, i left the club at near 6.

Day 3 was similar to day 2, only this time the hotel actually needed the room for someone else (you can kind of guess what time they woke me up). Plan for the day was to go and Watch the Werder Bremen match at the pub, but there just wasn't enough time. There was enough time for a quick tour of the town with Arno and to enjoy the drunken chants of Cologne and Bremen football fans. I then met up with Jan and Kat for some more hangover remidies and then headed to the airport, where my weekend in Bremen ended.

As you can see, I didn't get much in the way of photos. Mainly because I wasn't accompanied by a Photographer like last time and my own camera is crap! I'll take a better one next time, or atleast get someone else to take them! Added to this Blogger.com isn't letting me upload photos at the moment Grrrr

Thanks to everyone who came to the event. And a big thanks to Sven, Arno, Kat and Jan for looking after me all weekend.

KINETIC GROOVE WILL BE RETURNING TO BREMEN IN EARLY 2009 - STAY TUNED FOR MORE DETAILS!

We're Back!

Hi Everyone!

It's been a while, but Kinetic Groove is back, well almost! Myself and the label have recently moved house so its been a bit hectic to keep things running during the move. Having said that the Studio is set up, the internet is working finally and we're good to go.

I thought i'd use this opportunity to give you a quick update on what's going on at Kinetic Groove at the moment, as well as the coming months.

First up I'm pleased to announce that Kinetic Groove will be holding another label party, this time traveling over to Bremen in Germany. I'll be traveling out on the 14th of November to DJ alongside my friends DJ Kaylab and S-file at the NFF club in the heart of Bremen (see my last post for info on the NFF). More details are to follow on this night so keep an eye out.

Secondly there will be some new material coming out on the label. Lord of Crow's is putting the finishing touches to his Discovery EP and we expect to deliver previews of this very soon. Also, Ben Hoo will also be releasing an original track, hopefully with a remix by me - again, stay tuned for more information.

So, hope you are all well and thanks for your support!

Kinetic Groove Loves Bremen!

This Friday just past saw me traveling over to Bremen with some friends to DJ @ JITO Session at the NFF Club. The trip started well however our flight was delayed so we didn't arrive in Bremen til gone 11, so just enough time to meet the promoter, get to the hotel, eat, change and get to the club!

The NFF Club is an excellent space with a great sound system. Even better the place was rammed with up for it clubbers and lots of good looking girls ;-). I jumped on the Decks at 3am and played through til 5, and then went back to back with Resident DJ and Club Owner DJ Kaylab. The Music policy was mostly Electro/Tech House, however I managed to sneak in some Techno which really got the crowd moving.
Accompanying me on my Trip was Mitesh Tailor from Clarity Re-Birth Photography, who done an excellent job of capturing the night on camera. Below are some photos from the night, however you can view all of the photos by visiting Mitesh's website at: http://www.clarity-rebirth.co.uk/

So a big thanks to Sven, Kaylab, Motion and the clubbers in Bremen and also to Mitesh for taking the photos. Hope to see you all again soon!

Whats going on?

It's been a while since I updated the blog, mainly because of the amount of quality parties going on in London at the moment! So I thought I'd give you all an update on whats going on with the label, its artists and also whats going on in Club-land at the moment that is really doing it for us here at Kinetic Groove.

:: Rainbow Value
This party takes place at Brick lane hot spot "93ft East" every Saturday. The party starts at 12pm and runs through til 7pm and all that can be said is that this party is truly crazy. Expect Fancy dress, in door games, Bingo and much more, all to the sound of Tech House, Techno and Minimal. Probably the best thing about the party is it's for Charity, therefore clubbers are asked to make donations towards a chosen charity instead of paying admission. Through the ever growing number of loyal followers, the organisers of Rainbow Value have raised substantial money which is being donated to a Hospital in East Timor.

The Party has also attracted a lot of DJ's to come and play, recent parties have seen sets from DJ's such as Tim Sheridan, Mr C, Ashley Caselle and James Mowbray to name but a few.

June See's a separation of the party with a lot of the followers and organisers traveling to Ibiza for the Summer Season, the party in London however is as strong as ever, with their next event taking place on the 7th of June. DJ's for this event will be Leftroom records head honcho Matt Tolfrey, along with Tweek! (Rik Vincent and Kinetic Groove's very own Ben Hoo), James Monday, Dimitry Slyusarenko and the Rainbow Value residents.

So what you waiting for, get yourself down to Rainbow Value soon!!

:: Jito Session @ NFF Club, Bremen, Germany 20th June 2008
After the unfortunate cancellation of the last Jito Session I was supposed to play at, the party is back on - This time at the newly re-opened NFF Club in the heart of Bremen City. Mitesh Tailor from Clarity Re-Birth Photography is accompanying me on this little trip, so expect some excellent photos!

:: Mahony - M's Way
M's Way was finally released on the 30th of May after some rather annoying IT problems. The track along with the remix by The Brain is available for purchase and download from a number of download sites including: DJ Download, Juno Download, Chemical Records, Breakbeatonline and Trackitdown.net. Go get yourself a copy now!

:: Kinetic Groove and the Summer
Kinetic Groove will be moving offices and Studios at the end of July, so we'll be going into Hibernation for a little while whilst we sort everyting out. If you have any tracks you want to send us or get in touch with us, you can do so in the normal way by e-mailing kineticgroove@ntlworld.com

So thats it really, hope you all have a good start to the Summer season - Bye for now!

Launch Party = SUCCESS!

Despite a range of problems leading up to the event and on the day, the Kinetic Groove Launch Party went ahead and was a complete success! The Kensington Bar & Kitchen really didn't know what hit them, both musically and physically. Jschmoove and C4 warmed up the night and were followed by Matt Hardin who really got the dance floor moving. Following Matt was Kinetic Groove's own Ben Hoo who played an excellent set of Minimal and Tech House beats. Rounding off the night was Paolo Bernacchia aka "Lord of Crows" who fired up his Mac and delivered a truly inspiring Ableton Live set. Photo's of the night can be found at http://clarity-rebirth.co.uk/

Kinetic Groove and Above Promotions would like to thank all of the people who came along, as well as the people who made the party possible - Martin Allen (Magic Gun), Mitesh Tailor (Clarity-Rebirth), Neil Raja, Matt Hardin (Religion Promotions), Podd Sound, Richard Vincent, Simon Little and finally Sue @ The Kensington.

Kinetic Groove and Above promotions will be teaming up again very soon to bring you another party, so stay tuned for more details!

Happy New Year from Kinetic Groove!

Well we've passed into 2008 and its been, quite frankly, an exciting time for Kinetic Groove. The label came to life in June 2007 and saw releases from LEADER, along with Raiko Matta. Later on in the year saw Kinetic Groove release "it never stops" by Profound Sound, a track of which received a warm reception by a number of DJ's in the UK and USA.

As the year started to come to a close, the label progressed with its 5th release - entitled "Deeper to that place" by The Brain. This has been the strongest release for the label, with good sales and feedback alike.

2007 has also seen Kinetic Groove sign an EP by Italian DJ & Producer Paolo Bernacchia aka "Lord of Crows". The EP, which is currently un-named is planned to be released in the second quarter of 2008, is a mix of Minimal techno, Tech House and Electro and is sure to get people moving!

So, 2008 - what does it hold for the Label and its artists?

  • Ben Hoo will be releasing another track with us over the summer period, the track has already been road tested in the club and has torn apart the dance floor.
  • The Brain and Mahony will be teaming up again to bring us yet another solid Breakbeat release.
  • Label owner and Manager Stefan Cordery, will be releasing new material, along with remixes from the other Kgroove artists.
  • Plus much, much more!

Kinetic Groove will also be looking for new un-signed talent to join the roster, so if you have any material you would like us to hear, make sure to subscribe to this newsletter to find out more.

Finally, a thank you to the Digital download sites that have supported Kinetic Groove throughout 2007, along with the great artists on board. And of course, a big thank you to all the DJ's and Music lovers who have purchased and played the tracks!

Have a great year!
