3 Minute Interview with Stefan Cordery from Kinetic Groove

(Interview by Cargo ahead of the Kinetic Groove Label Showcase @ Lions Lair, Sheffield 28/11/09)

We caught up with label boss Stefan Cordery ahead of tonights showcase at Cargo (Lions Lair).

CARGO: Stefan, your label has evolved its sound since its inception, is that something that you will continue to do or have you found your groove now?

STEFAN: To get the most out of music you need to have an open mind. So by finding new and exciting artists and releasing their music a labels direction will naturally progress. I'm really happy with where the label is at the moment, but who knows what's round the corner!

C: Which artists excite you most in terms of production and performance in the Kinetic Groove fold?

S: Loren was responsible for bringing the label back into play for 2009 and delivered some really impressive material, I’ve heard some of his recent work and collaborations - the guy has serious talent!
Robert Cashin is really going places with his music too. He’s a machine in the studio and has definitely developed a signature sound both in the Studio and behind the Decks. Watch out for him in 2010.

C: Give us an update on your latest releases; who, what, when and where can we check them out?

S: The latest release on the label is from Robert Cashin entitled “Alesis” which is available from Juno Download Now. Next up on the label will be a remix EP of the 2nd track on Alesis entitled “Kaba”, with remixes from new signings Jim Knox and Delta7. And of course, lots more in store for 2010.

C: It's your Sheffield debut, are you looking forward to playing here?

S: It’s always great to visit somewhere new, especially to DJ. So we’re looking forward to dropping some tunes and partying!

C: Finally, what can we expect from yourself and Rich Vincent this Saturday?

S: Quality House and Techno!

Robert Cashin - "Alesis" out today!

As we move through 2009 at what seems like a blistering pace, we are pleased to bring you the 8th release on Kinetic Groove, this time from new signing Robert Cashin.

Hailing from Cardiff, Wales in the UK Robert has had an impressive start to his music career DJing alongside artists such as Tim Sheridan, James Zabiela, Audiojack and
James Talk but to name a few. In the Studio his use of complex percussion and warm melodic sounds stamp the Robert Cashin trademark on his productions, resulting in deep, funk ridden grooves. These fresh sounds and techniques have caught the ears of many industry veterans and this year has already seen him working with a number of reputable producers.

First up on the release is the title track."Alesis” has 2 stages of development based around rhythmic chord stabs and subtle texture changes. The effortless rolling drums and percussion then help to produce an easy to follow groove, which also makes this track a great DJ-tool.

Moving onto the 2nd track on the release, "Kaba" is all about rhythms. Layers of continuous and disjointed percussion create an abstract arrangement, which shrouds the tracks eerie undertones. These underlying sounds are then revealed in the drop, allowing the core percussive elements to guide the progression.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The tracks have been on rotation with the likes of DJ HELL, STEPHAN BODZIN and LUCIANO but to name a few! Hear what other DJ's are saying about the release:

ALEXI DELANO (Clink Recordings) - "Very nice deep tracks, will support for sure 3/5"

ANDREW GRANT (Baracca/Circo Loco) - "Slice of Funk...4/5"

DJ HELL (Gigolo Records) - "I walk around the Kaba 4/5"

CHRIS FORTIER (Field Trip) - "Nice Sound! 3/5"

AKA AKA (Stil vor Talent) - "Grooving Stuff, we like it! 4/5"

SOMEONE ELSE (World/Phily Berlin - "A very classy release :-) 4/5"

ANA (Harry Klein Munich) - "Kaba is my fave one! 3/5"

STEPHAN BODZIN (Herzblut) - "Reall like Kaba! 5/5"

JEFF BENNETT - "kaba is the one for me, nice groove 4/5"

HEIKO LUX (Kanzleramt Berlin) - "Kaba is great, will play! 4/5"

TIM XAVIER (Clink Recordings) - "I Like Kaba! 3/5"

REBEKAH (Custard Factory) - "Really nice tracks, warm and deep and will work early in my sets 5/5"

Alesis is available from the following download stores from the 23rd of September - 7Digital, Audiojelly, Dance Music Hub, Dance-Tunes.com, DJ Download, DJtunes.com, Junodownload, Trackitdown and Xpressbeats.
